Empire, Cleveland 1991

A well known Radio broadcast which for me is one of my Top 3 live shows by BOC. I love the artwork for this.Original use of colours.
The setlist is similar to the 1988/89 'Imaginos' tour except this time round the 'Imaginos' songs are gone and replaced with some old classics namely 'Before the Kiss','Unknown tongue' and 'Career of Evil'. Now THAT is a setlist.

The sound quality here is stunning. Whilst the 'Toads place' show from 1989 has too much bass causing slight distortion and the 'Toronto' show also from 1989 has little bass this is JUST RIGHT. Kinda like 'Goldilocks and three bears' and the porridge!!
The band are loose, raw edged, and extremely heavy. The setlist along with the ones already mentioned makes this show a winner all round.
'Before the Kiss' is just Riff mad. It sounds great.
The ONLY fault with this is that the DJ is talking at the beginning of Disc 2 and talks over the first few bars of 'Unknown Tongue' which is completely Unforgivable!!
The line up of Eric Bloom,Buck Dharma,Allen Lanier,Jon rogers,Chuck Burgi at this time were really rockin'.

CD1. MC intro
2. Music intro/band takes the stage

3. Stairway To The Stars
4. Dominance And Submission
5. Before The Kiss (A Redcap)
6. E.T.I.
7. Buck’s Boogie
8. Take Me Away

9. Cities On Flame
10. Astronomy
11. Career Of Evil

CD 2 :
1. Unknown Tongue
2. Burnin’ For You
3. Godzilla (with bass and drum solos)
4. Don’t Fear (The Reaper)
5. This Ain’t The Summer Of Love/The Red And The Black

I've included 'Career of Evil' from THIS show so you can appreciate just how good this is.

  1. Saw BOC a few days earlier in Kaukana, WI, they were playing with (yawn) Dokken backing them up.......show was packed and they sounded great......I thought there early 90s sound was great.......it was definitely a bit heavier then previous incarnations and burgi was a better sounding drummer then Ron Riddle.......I think I saw them 3 times that year, another WI date was I believe that summer late August?...they placed in the middle of nowhere for some Rockfest with blackfoot and Head East, it rained"at least on us" the band was protected, head east wimped out but blackfoot and boc played..........small crowd, everyone passing joints around as security wasnt going to kick out us few diehards..........sweet memories
